SUMMARY:  LC 33 5270  Entitles a parent to have a hearing before a panel prior to the parent being banned from a school by the administration.

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • local board must establish procedures and timelines for requesting and conducting such hearings
  • parent mus make a written request for the hearing
  • the hearing panel must include an independent person who is not employed at the school

POINTS TO CONSIDER:  Does not impact the prohibition of admission to a school of a parent who has violated school policy or state law.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon approval by the General Assembly and signature by the Governor.
