Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  Removes the nepotism language signed into law in 2009 that makes individuals ineligible to run for the local board of education if they have family members employed as administrators in the school system.

POINTS TO CONSIDER:  A provision of HB 251 signed into law last year makes persons ineligible to run for the school board if they have immediate family members serving as an administrator at the central office or school level.  This bill removes that provision.

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Upon approval by the Governor or becomes law without such approval.  If passed, this legislation must be approved by the US Department of Justice.
