SUMMARY:  LC 33 3461

This bill would mandate the beginning date for any school year to be no earlier than the third full week of August.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • This bill would require that the first day on student instruction of any school year could not be conducted prior to the first third full week of August with Sunday being considered as the first day of the week.

POINTS TO BE CONSIDER: 

  • Limits the flexibility of the Local Board of Education to plan and adopt their district’s school year calendars.
  • Would require state testing schedules to be revamped.

EFFECTIVE DATE: 

Upon approval by the Governor or by becoming law without such approval.
