NOTE: Provisions of this bill have been incorporated into HB 512 and SB 101.
Gives local boards the option to designate one or more administrators in a school to possess and carry firearms within a school safety zone, at school, school functions, school property, or school buses or other transportation provided by the school. Such firearms may be concealed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- authorizes, but does not require boards to allow administrators to carry weapons
- administrators must obtain a weapons carry license and
- successfully complete an approved training course and
- annually qualify with the firearm to be carried at an approved location
POINTS TO CONSIDER:
- all costs are the responsibility of the local school system
- liability issues have not been clarified
EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon approval by the General Assembly and the Governor.
