Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY: LC 40 0259 Prohibits public employees, including school district employees, from using computers or other telecommunications devices for the purpose of promoting or opposing legislation or action by the Governor on pending legislation.

Email addresses of parents and guardians of public school students shall be used only for school related functions and not for promoting or opposing legislation, action by the Governor on pending legislation, or questions submitted to the electorate (Constitutional amendments).

POINTS TO CONSIDER: Georgia code already defines restrictions on utilization of school district property by employees.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon approval by the General Assembly and Governor.
