SUMMARY:  LC 33 5004  Creates a "bill of rights" for teachers:
  • administrators and school board members shall respect the right of teachers to exercise independent thought and to express constructive criticism in an appropriate and professional manner
  • teacher may associate with a educational professional organization
  • teachers may not be coerced to change a student's grade
  • the teacher may remove a disruptive student from the classroom for at minimum one day
  • a teacher may file a grievance about an evaluation
  • teachers shall be given the opportunity to confidentially evaluate the principal and assistant principals
  • the teacher of the year shall be nominated and selected solely by the anonymous votes of teachers

 EFFECTIVE DATE:  Upon approval of the General Assembly and Governor.
