Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  LC 28 7813 LC 287982S No individual shall be appointed  to serve on any authority, school district, commission, council, or board for a local governing body unless he or she is a citizen of the United States and has been a legal resident of the jurisdiction being served for one year immediately preceding such appointment.

No individual shall be appointed  to serve on any state authority, council, commission or board unless he or she is a citizen of the United States and has been a legal resident of the jurisdiction being served for four years immediately preceding such appointment. 

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Upon approval by the General Assembly and Governor.
