Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  LC 33 6322  LC 33 6377S  HB801/AP Revises the requirement for HOPE scholarships by increasing the student's grade by 0.5 for a grade of B, C, or D in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics college courses identified by the Board of Regents.  Courses should be academically rigorous and required for or leading to employment in high demand fields in Georgia in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Adds computer science to the list of optional courses for which credit is required for HOPE eligibility.

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Beginning in academic year 2017-18 if approved by the General Assembly and Governor.
