Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  LC 33 5704 LC 33 6448S Grade point averages for HOPE purposes are calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission on a 4 point scale.  This legislation allows GSFC in its discretion, to weight coursework in advanced placement, dual credit, or international baccalaureate classes in such a manner that such coursework's grade exceeds 4.0.

POINTS TO CONSIDER:

  • Provides students in these selected courses an advantage over others for HOPE eligibility.
  • Is permissive; does not require FSFC to adopt such a scale.

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Upon approval by the General Assembly and the Governor.
