SUMMARY: LC 40 0813   LC 33 6108S(SCS) Establishes "Celebrate Freedom Week"

REQUIREMENTS: Local school systems are strongly encouraged to:

  • establish Celebrate Freedom Week annually in September with three hours of instruction in each social studies class to include these and other topics related to "educate students about the sacrifices made for freedom in the founding of this country, and  the values, principles, and philosophies on which this country was founded:
    •  Declaration of Independence
    •  US Constitution
    • Founding Fathers
    •  US Presidents
    • Bill of Rights
    • and other topics enumerated in the bill 

POINTS TO CONSIDER: Encourages, but does not require such action by local school districts.

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Upon approval by the General Assembly and Governor.
