Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SUMMARY:  LC 33 6039S  Proposed amendment to the Constitution for the distribution of SPLOST revenue between county and city school districts.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proceeds of a SPLOST collected by a county school system and one or more city school systems shall be distributed according to an agreement between the systems; if no agreement is reached, proceeds shall be distributed according to the ratio of student enrollment in each system. 

POINTS TO CONSIDER:

  • Passed the House by 2/3 vote.  Must also pass the Senate by 2/3 vote and be approved by the voters. 

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Upon approval by 2/3 vote of the General Assembly and the voters.
