SUMMARY: LC 39 1740 HB 713/FA   HB 713/SCSFA

Would allow students who graduated from an ineligible high school or home study program to be eligible for the HOPE scholarship as a Zell Miller Scholarship Scholar provided that they receive a score in the ninety-first ninety- second percentile or higher on the ACT or the SAT. 

Latest version of bill would amend Article 7 Chapter 3 of Title 20, and would define an "eligible student". 

Eligible Student: a person whose family income does not exceed $48,000, who has been accepted for enrollment as a first year student at a qualified institution, is qualified for and receiving a Pell grant, is not eligible to receive a HOPE scholarship and achieved a high school GPA of 2.3 through 3.0 and meets at least one of the following requirements.

Achieved and ACT composite scale score of 21 or higher

Achieved and SAT score of 480 or higher in reading and writing and 530 on math

Achieved a score of 3 or higher on at least two advanced placement examinations

Achieved 4 or higher on at least 2 international baccalaureate examinations 

Has passed an end-of-pathway assessment under the Perkins Act

 

EFFECTIVE DATE:

Section 1 of act would be effective on July 1, 2018. Section 2 of act would be effective on July 1, 2020.
