SUMMARY: LC 33 7146    HB 763/SCSFA

Would require the chief judge of the superior court of each county to establish a student attendance and school climate committee for that county. The committee would ensure that officials, agencies and programs involved in compulsory attendance issues, work together with the purpose of reducing the number of unexcused absences and to increase the percentage of students present to take required testing.

Would also require each school to prepare a school safety plan with intentions of curbing incidences of school violence, and to provide for a safe learning environment. School safety plans would include training of staff on school violence prevention, school security, school threat assessment, mental health awareness and school emergency planning best practices.
