SUMMARY:

Would require the Department of Education to revise their policy on bullying no later than August 21, 2020.
Policy would be required to have the following:
- a statement prohibiting bullying
- a requirement that any teacher or school employee would report any incident of bullying to the school principal immediately
- a requirement to determine in a timely manner whether any bullying incident should be reported to any local, state of federal agency
- an age appropriate range of consequences for students found to have committed an offense of bullying
- a procedure for referral to counseling any students who are found to have committed an offense of bullying and for students who are found to be the victim of bullying
- a clearly defined procedure for a teacher, other school employee, student, parent, guardian to report or provide information on bullying activity, with a standardized reporting form made available on the local school systems website as well as in school facilities
- a statement prohibiting retaliation following a report of suspected bullying
- a requirement that all teachers and other school employees shall annually receive training in bullying identification and prevention
EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1, 2020, if passed. |
