SUMMARY:  LC 49 0327

The bill is called the "Georgia Resident In-State Tuition Act."  It would require a student to be classified for in-state tuition if satisfying all the following conditions:

  • Is not seeking admission to any research university in the University System
  • Has graduated from a GA high school or has a valid GA GED
  • Has independently established and maintained residence in the state since January 1, 2013 or is the dependent child of a parent who has done so
  • Has not reached the age of 30 at the time of initial application for admission to a postsecondary educational institution
  • Is not a nonimmigrant alien within the meaning of 8 USC Section 1101

The Board of Regents is authorized to classify for in-state tuition purposes a noncitizen student who is lawfully present in this state and who submits evidence to warrant consideration on in-state classification.

The State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia would be authorized to classify a student for in-state tuition purposes if meeting the following conditions:

  • Has graduated from a GA high school or has a valid GA GED
  • Has independently established and maintained residence in the state since January 1, 2013 or is the dependent child of a parent who has done so
  • Has not reached the age of 30 at the time of initial application for admission to a postsecondary educational institution
  • Is not a nonimmigrant alien within the meaning of 8 USC Section 1101

July 1, 2021
