SUMMARY: LC 49 0546
A Constitutional amendment that would allow local legislation to call for a referendum to allow for changing from a local superintendent appointed by the local board to one elected by the voters in the school district. It would also add "The qualifications, duties, and salary of the school superintendent shall be established by the board of education as provided by general law" to the Constitution.
If passed by 2/3 of both chambers, the ballot question in November 2022 would be:
Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that the qualifications, duties, and salary of the school superintendent shall be established by the board of education as provided by general law and to authorize the General Assembly to provide by law that local school superintendents shall be elected by voters as an alternative to being appointed by local boards of education, if approved by a referendum?
EFFECTIVE DATE: If passed by 2/3 in both chambers and by the voters in November, it would be in effect immediately. |
