SUMMARY: LC 39 2754
The bill is called the "Second Amendment Restoration and Protection Act." It revises provisions of various laws regarding the use or possession of firearms.
Of note for education is Section 6, beginning on line 251. It adds a provision to 16-11-127.1: If a local board of education approves a policy allowing the possession of weapons or long guns by lawful carrier license holders within a school safety zone, at a school function, or on a bus or other transportation furnished by a school, then a lawful carrier license holder may do so.
It also removes a limitation on an exception in 16-11-127.1(c)(8). Currently the exception to no guns on campus, attending a school function, or on school-provided transportation for an adult over 21 with a locked firearm in his/her vehicle does not apply to a student attending a public or private elementary or secondary school. This bill would change that so that the exception would extend to such a student.
