SUMMARY:  LC 49 0844  LC 49 0924S  LC 49 1018S

Beginning July 1, 2023, no accrediting agency shall be recognized by any entity of the state as a reliable authority as to the quality of education offered in public schools in GA unless they meet the evaluation criteria established by the State Board of Education (for which the bill has requirements) and eight other criteria including demonstrating the ability and experience to operate as a recognized accrediting agency in the state; that the principal purpose of the agency is to accredit public schools and school systems in the state;  that they have a voluntary membership of public schools, school systems, and programs; that they consistently apply and enforce evaluation criteria that ensure courses/programs offered meet their objectives; and follow the due process and transparency provisions.

The provisions do not apply to any initial or renewal agreements entered into before July 1, 2023.
