This bill would amend Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to give the DOE another year to complete development of the curricula for the 16 prescribed courses of study until the 2013-2014 school year; to require the SBOE to prescribe a minimum course of study in career education K-12 with specified contents; and to change the mandated assessment for post-secondary readiness from 10^th grade to the end of 11^th grade. Students in 11^th and 12^th grades who fail to meet the readiness standards would be required to take transitional courses in reading, writing and math with common standards, syllabi, and instructional materials. A state-wide process would be required for determining how successful completion of those transitional courses would guarantee that students will meet the readiness standards.
