SB 132 (Senators Dugan-R, Tippins-R, Millar-R, Tate-D, Sims-D, and Seay-D)

Move on When Ready Act

This bill amends the provisions of O.C.G.A. 20-2-161.3 to extend the eligibility for participation in dual enrollment course opportunities to all high school students in grades 9-12, provided such student applies and is accepted by the post-secondary institution for enrollment.  These dual enrollment courses can include virtual courses and courses taken outside of the regular high school day.

The bill requires that program materials be provided to each eighth grade student at the time the student is developing his/her individual graduation plan.

The Department of Education is required to specify the subject area requirements and elective courses that may be satisfied with dual credit courses.

Participating public high schools may apply for transportation grants.

Under no circumstances may eligible postsecondary institutions require an eligible high school student participating in the program to pay for tuitino, noncourse related fees, or course books.

Dual credit hours shall not count against any maximum hourly caps which may be applicable for purposes of HOPE scholarships or grants.
