Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Code Section 13-10-91 of the O.C.G.A. to provide additional requirements for the annual immigration and compliance report to the state auditors regarding implementation of the federal requirement for verification of U.S. citizenship prior to employing individuals for public service. It adds several items to the definition of “public benefit,” such as retirement benefits, that would require proof of citizenship if the individual had not already established citizenship with the agency. School systems would be required to comply with this law as per the addition of the definition of “agency or political subdivision” the phrase “any department, agency, authority, commission or governmental entity of this state…” The required contents of the report are listed in the bill.
