Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Part 2 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to require annual reporting of bullying incidents as an addition to the annual disciplinary report. In addition, the principal of each school would have to report regularly to the school council the number of bullying incidents without revealing personally identifying information. They would then be expected to work on strategies to prevent bullying.

It would also add that students in grades 6-12 who commit a third bullying act in a school year would be guilty of a misdemeanor, and any further bullying incidents by that student during the year would be classified as a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature.
