Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Subpart 2 of Part 6 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to provide a state salary increase for special education teachers under certain conditions. All certified special education teachers, after July 1, 2015 would be moved up to the step on the salary schedule equivalent to six years of creditable service, unless he/she is already above that step. They would then move up one additional year per year of creditable service for five additional years. They could then move up an additional year for each year of service if they meet or exceed student achievement criteria established by OSA. If that is not the case, the teacher would be moved back to the place that matches their actual years accumulated. Of course, it all depends on appropriations.
