SB 161 (Senate Committee on Education and Youth Substitute)

This bill amends current Code Section 20-2-751.1, to:

  • Continue to require a 1 calendar year expeusion for a student who brings a FIREARM to school.
  • Require an expulsion for a period determined by the local board of education for a student who brings a DANGEROUS WEAPON to school. (Rather than the 1 calendar currently required.)
  • Requires the local board of education to confirm any modifications to the one year required expulsion in the case of firearms possession, which may be RECOMMENDED by a hearing officer, trubunal, panel, administrator, or superintendent.
