Staff Analysis of the Legislation

 

HOPE

  • Beginning with students graduating from High School on or after May 1, 2017

  • Student shall receive credit in at least four courses prior to graduating from high school from the following categories:

                             Advanced Math

                             Advanced Science – added to this group is computer science

                             AP courses in core subjects

                             Dual Credit courses in core subjects

                             IB courses in core subjects

                             Courses taken at a unit of the USG in core subjects.  Not remedial or developmental

                             Advanced foreign language courses

  • Students may take one or more courses in each category, provided, that a course shall only be counted one time

  • The Georgia Student Finance Commission shall provide the rules and regulations

 

              Section 2 of the bill allows for weighted grades in STEM courses in post-secondary institutions

 

 

Short Note: HOPE BILL Adds Computer Science cousrses to Science area for Hope eligibility.
