This is a constitutional amendment which would provide an additional option for the selection for local school superintendents and local board of education members.  

Currently, school board members are elected by the public and school superintendents are appointed by those local boards of education.

This constitutional amendment provides an option that would allow the legislature to enact local law to provide for the election of the school superintendent and the appointment of members of the board of education by the local Grand Jury. 

SB 81 provides the necessary changes to current code to enact the provisions of this consitutional amendment.
