Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 271 (Reps. Setzler, Dudgeion, and Taylor - R)

Amends several sections of current code to establish and authorize "Charters-schools-in-the-workplace" for consideration by the Charter Schools Commission, which provides the opportunity for business partners to establish by "providing facilities or operational funding" a charter school for their employees.

It also adds "A student who is the child of an employee of the business partner of a charter-school-in-the-workplace" to the selection priorities available for inclusion in the selection process.

Essentially, business would be authorized to apply directly to the commission for a charter and concurrently to the local board of education (for information only) to establish a charter school for their employees.
