Chairman Lanes Opinion of this legislation:

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

This bill provides for an extensive re-write of the Shrimp Fishery laws in Georgia.  The recommendations contained in the bill came from a public stakeholder process coordinated and facilitated by the Coastal Resources Division of the Department of Natural Resources in 2005, and according to DNRs position - are not contrary to the wise use and conservation of Georgias shrimp resource.

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

This legislation is the result of a public stakeholder process facilitated by the Coastal resources Division of GA DNR.

THIS LEGISLATION:

  • Reduces the Size of Government:

Removes much of the prohibitory language added to Georgia Code in 1998 as it relates to taking shrimp by cast net.
