HB 214 makes changes to the leasing and oversight of Jekyll Island. Section 2 removes the Jekyll Island - State Park Authority from the purview of the Recreational Authorities Oversight Committee. Section 3 extends the existence of the Authority for another 50 years, to correspond with the extension of the leases. Section 4 adds two non-voting advisory members to the Authority which are appointed by the Speaker and President of the Senate. Section 5 creates the Jekyll Island-State Park Authority Oversight Committee, which will be made up of three Representatives and three Senators and requires the Authority to submit quarterly reports to the committee. Section 6 extends the current 99 year lease which will expire in 2049 for an additional 50 years. Section 7 makes procedural and administrative changes regarding the Jekyll Island master plan. Section 8 exempts the authority from all sales and use taxes.

This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the State Institutions & Property Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Modified Structured Rule.
