HB 953 creates the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. The commission will have 28 members selected by county commissioners and mayors from counties historically involved in the war as well as members selected from various agencies and by legislative leaders. The commission, which will be in place until 2015, is charged with promoting and coordinating events, educational opportunities, and other commemorations of Georgia’s role in the War of 1812. The commission is authorized to solicit and accept donations and is required to report annually to the General Assembly. All of the commission’s activities are subject to available funds.
