House Bill 1159

Chair's Name: Judy Manning

Committee: Children & Youth

House Sponsor: John Lunsford

HB 1159 will give an annual $2000 tax credit to families who adopt foster children. The credit will begin the year the adoption becomes final and end the year the adopted child turns 18.

This bill comes to the Floor under the Structured Rule.

Chairman Manning’s Opinion of the legislation:

This bill gives tax relief to adoptive parents adopting foster children in the state of Georgia. A growing number of children are in the foster care system and need to be adopted. This legislation would aid families adopting these children.
