This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Motor Vehicles Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

Chairman Rices opinion of this legislation:

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

It is possible, under current law, for individuals that are in the state unlawfully to register a motor vehicle and to obtain a tag.  This bill would require individuals to show a valid Georgia Drivers License in order to register their motor vehicle.  There is an exemption for out of state individuals that have a vacation home in Georgia or are in the military or are a student.

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

To keep individuals who are in this state unlawfully from registering a motor vehicle.
