HB 128 sets this dates for this year�s sales tax holidays. The �Back-to-School� sales tax holiday will be August 2-5, 2007. The �Energy Star� sales tax holiday will be October 4-7, 2007

This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Ways & Means Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Structured Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

2007 Sales tax holiday � sales tax exemption to buy school supplies and energy efficient products on certain days.  This bill relieves the tax burden on students and their families and encourages the purchase of energy efficient products.

 

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

To assist taxpayers in affording needed educational supplies, and to encourage taxpayers to buy energy efficient products by offering them a sales tax exemption on these items.

 

THIS LEGISLATION:

  • Reduces the Tax Burden on our Citizens

Allows students to obtain necessary items for educational purposes free from sales tax.  Also allows those that wish to purchase energy efficient products sales tax relief.

  • Increases Personal Responsibility

Encourages environmental awareness by making it easier to purchase energy efficient products.
