HB 156 allows DHR to retain a $13 fee from the person paying child support and a $12 fee from the person receiving child support once DHR collects $500 in support annually in the case. The fee would be retained in monthly installments, but would not apply to cases where the person receiving the child support is on public assistance.

The committee substitute received a Do Pass recommendation from the Judiciary Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?

HB156 allows the Department of Human Resources to collect a fee from child support obligors and obligees to offset the new fees imposed by the Federal Deficit Reduction Act on States for child support collections. 

 

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

DHR requested this legislation to recoup the fees imposed by the Federal Deficit Reduction Act on child support collections.

This bill will prevent the taxpayers from being forced to pay the federal government the fee imposed by the Federal Deficit Reduction Act.
