HB 191 allows the Colquitt County Board of Education to be elected in non-partisan elections beginning January 1, 2008. This change will not effect the current term of any members of the board.

This bill received a Do Pass recommendation from the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

HB 191 simply makes the elections of the Colquitt Bounty Board of Education nonpartisan.

 

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?

The driving force behind HB 191 was a request by the members of the Colquitt County Board of Education to make their election nonpartisan.
