HB 257 would allow constables to carry their weapons in places such as public and school buildings in the same manner as other law enforcement officers.

 

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Modified Structured Rule.

Further Action

The Senate added floor amendments: adding retired peace officers from a local law enforcement agency to the persons allowed to carry a pistol into a public building;  making carry provisions subject to a courthouse security plan that prohibits persons from carrying a pistol; adding a new section to allow a person licensed or permitted to carry a firearm on public transportation, unless in conflict with federal law or other code sections; and prohibiting persons licensed or permitted to carry firearms from consuming alcohol in a restaurant or other establishment while carrying a firearm (misdemeanor).
