HB 282 would exempt from the state sales tax the sale or use of engines, parts, equipment, and other tangible personal property used in the maintenance or repair of aircraft which are not registered in the state. The exemption will be effective from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009.
The committee substitute received a Do Pass recommendation from the Ways & Means Committee and comes to the House Floor under the Structured Rule.

WHAT PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY DOES THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESS?
HB 282 provides for an exemption from sales and use tax on the sale or use of engines, parts, equipment, and other tangible personal property used in the maintenance or repair of aircraft in Georgia. This exemption will only apply to aircraft that are not registered in this state.
WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS LEGISLATION?
To make Georgia competitive for the business of aircraft repair and maintenance.
THIS LEGISLATION:
- Will provide incentive for out of state customers to choose Georgia as the location to have aircraft repaired or maintained
Senate Changes:
The Senate amended HB 282 by striking on line 16 of page 1 the words �so long as such aircraft is not registered in this state�. This bill was Structured under the House Rules, and is subject to House Rule 33.1(d).
