Staff Analysis of the Legislation

House Bill 864

Chairman: Tom Knox

Committee:Insurance

House Sponsor: Tom Knox

Chairman Knox’s Opinion of the Legislation:

Currently, if an employee wants dependent coverage through their group life policy, 75% of the employees must participate. Insurance companies perform this easily now because of automation. No further reason now exists to carry the percentage requirements, so they are being removed. Section 2 modifies language to conform to a 2006 act.

This Legislation:

Strengthens Families and Increases Personal Responsibility by encouraging participation in dependent life insurance coverage and allowing families to provide for their own financial needs.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule

Further Action

The Senate added language to create the "Georgia Health Marketplace Authority". The House agreed as amended by the house.
