House Bill 964

Chairman: Burke Day

Committee: Public Safety & Homeland Security

House Sponsor: Burke Day

HB 964 established boating safety zones for maritime and homeland security purposes. These safety zones will include the waters around the Elba Island liquefied natural gas mooring slip, the area within 100 yards of Navy vessels, and the area within 100 yards of a vessel being escorted by law enforcement.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Open Rule.

Chairman Day’s opinion of this legislation:

State law enforcement lacks the ability to enforce laws along its vital costal harbors. Currently only the Coast Guard is enabled to do this. This legislation will help streamline and maximize resources to safeguard our ports.
