Chairman: Wendell Willard

Committee:Judiciary Civil

House Sponsor: Harry Geisinger

Senate Sponsor: David Shafer

The Rules Committee Substitute to SR 822 addresses the Georgia-Tennessee and Georgia-Carolina boundary issue. The resolution sets out the basis for Georgia’s claim in detail. This resolution strongly urges the Governor to initiate negotiations with the Governors of Tennessee and North Carolina regarding the flawed survey marking the 35th parallel and gives the Governor the authority to negotiate a settlement that would become binding upon approval by the General Assembly. The resolution further authorizes the Attorney General to take appropriate legal action if negotiations fail, including initiating suit in the US Supreme Court.

This bill comes to the House Floor under the Modified Rule.
