I'd only support this bill if there is mirroring legislation
which would make the same requirements for sky diving. And laser tag. Don't get
me started on bounce houses...
Seems to me this is an issue that applies to the business
and their liability insurance provider.
Aren't fire marshals currently supposed to inspect business
annually? Or building inspectors?
Jodi is right, most cities will never adopt an ordinance. If
they do, can the requirements be retroactive to existing trampoline houses?
That's a fun conversation for the city to have.
This bill imposes restrictions and mandates on an individual
business model. Attending a trampoline park is a voluntary activity so I don't
think the government should regulate an individual business model.
And finally, legislation for a one-off issue is typically
bad policy. If one business isn't capable or running a successful operation and
someone gets hurt, why should other more successful business models be
regulated as a result? Only with respect to the consequences of our
failure to inspect. Are we contributorily negligent if we don’t? |
