Staff Analysis of the Legislation

In 2016, the Legislature enacted HB 280 and required state agencies to study and report on autonomous vehicles. In 2017, HB 371 1st Substitute proposed to allow automated driving systems (ADS) to operate in the state but did not pass. HB 101 once again proposes to allow ADS to operate in the state and preempts cities from imposing any additional restrictions, fees, or requirements on ADS.
