Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill repeals restrictions on health insurers using genetic information in determining an individual's insurance coverage. The bill repeals restrictions on employers using employee genetic information in connection with hiring, promotion, retention, or related decisions. This bill repeals an individual's private right of action against an insurance company or employer who uses an individual's genetic information in violation of the individual's legal rights set forth in the Genetic Testing Privacy Act. 

This bill limits law enforcement's ability to obtain and use personal genetic information.
