NOW: schools; tests; menu of assessments 

Menu of Assessments

This bill changes the year that grades 3-8 will be able to select an assessment from the menu of assessments from the 2019-2020 school year to the 2023-2024 school year.

Requires the State Board of Education (SBE) to adopt a plan regarding the development and implementation of a new statewide assessment and menu of assessments in grades 3-12 by July 1, 2019. 

Requires this plan to include a timeline for implementation and the possibility of implementing the menu of assessments in grades 3-8 in the 2021-2022 school year. 

Requires ADE to collaborate with a diverse group of educators and school administrators in Arizona to revise and replace test items for the statewide assessment.

Applies retroactively to from and after June 30, 2019.

Dual Enrollment 

Changes the deadline for community colleges to report to JLBC exceptions to their class status requirements for dual enrollment students from October 1 to December 1. 

HIV/AIDS Instruction 

Eliminates the language that prohibits districts from including content that promotes a homosexual lifestyle, portrays homosexuality as a positive alternative lifestyle, or suggests that some methods of homosexual sex are safe when instructing about HIV/AIDS as part of sexual education curriculum.

Requires districts that deliver instruction on HIV/AIDS to provide a description of the course curriculum for this instruction to all parents.
