SUMMARY: LC 34 5194

Would create the Joint Study Committee on the Georgia Public Schools Calendar.

The committee shall have 13 members comprised of the chairperson of the House Committee on Economic Development and Tourism; the chairperson of the Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee; the chairperson of the Senate Education and Youth Committee or their designee; one member of the House of Representatives and one citizen member appointed by the Speaker of the House; one member of the Senate and one citizen member appointed by the Lt. Governor; one member appointed by the Governor; one member of the Georgia Board of Education; the Deputy Commissioner of Tourism for the GA Department of Economic Development; the president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, or their designee and the president of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.

The purpose of this committee would be to study the issue of early school start dates and their social, growth, and economic impact.

This committee will be abolished on December 1, 2017.
