SUMMARY:

LC 43 1515S   LC 43 1592S

Would allow persons that receive benefits through the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia to be employed as a certified teacher of pre-K through grade 12 in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, math or an area of of highest need (as determined by the Department of Education), provided that at least one year has expired from the effective date of such persons retirement. Individuals employed as such shall continue to remain a beneficiary, and will still be allowed to receive their retirement allowance and any post retirement benefit adjustments that they are eligible for. However such service shall not constitute creditable service and shall not entitle person to recomputation of retirement benefits upon leaving service. An employer that employs such person shall pay to the retirement system an amount equal to the product of the contribution of the rate required for employer and employee contributions and the earnable compensation of such beneficiary. 

 

EFFECTIVE DATE:

July 1, 2020, if passed.
