SUMMARY:

LC 33 7805   LC 33 7911ERS

Would require a parent or guardian who plans on home schooling their child to not only notify the Department of Education of their intent, but also the local board of education in which the home study program is located. 

This bill would also prohibit a parent or guardian from removing their child from public school and placing them into a home school study program in order to circumvent mandatory attendance laws, school discipline or parental responsibilities for the care and control of a child.  

Would require the local school system to notifiy the Division of Family and Children Services if a child stops attending public school for a period of 45 days and no declaration of withdrawal has been filed. 

EFFECTIVE DATE:

July 1, 2019, if passed.
