SUMMARY:  LC 39 2872  LC 39 2913S

The bill requires the State Board to add to the minimum specifications for vehicles used or contracted by local units of administration motor vehicles with a capacity of 8 people or less operated and marked for the transportation of students to and from school activities. [NOTE: The substitute eliminated the prohibition against using a ride-share service or transportation referral service.]

Local boards shall comply with all requirements established by the State Board of Education including minimum standards and requirements that shall be delineated separately from requirements for school buses.

Local boards may establish requirements in addition to the minimum state requirements.  Local boards are "authorized and required" to cause policies of insurance to be issued insuring the students being transported to and from school related activities against bodily injury or death at any time resulting from an accident or collision in which such vehicles are involved.  The amount of the insurance required is up to the local board.
