Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A. to authorize school systems to provide instruction on the history of traditional winter celebrations. The coverage would be limited to “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Hanukkah,” and “Happy Holidays.” Any displays must include a scene or symbol of more than one religion, or one religion and at least one secular scene or symbol. Any messages that encourage a particular religious belief would be banned.
