The amendments make the following changes that affect local governments: A local law enforcement officer must notify the person of the violation. A local government may not enact an ordinance that contains penalties that exceed or are less lenient than the penalties contained in this bill. Local law enforcement must check the school district Web site to determine if the district has complied with the subsection of this bill. If the hyperlink does not appear on the Web site, local law enforcement must then contact the district to determine that the district has provided to parents the names and address of sex offenders living within 1000 feet of school bus stops. If this information was not provided, local law enforcement must inform the school district that it is in violation of this requirement and if the district does not comply within 30 days, the district is subject to a $1000 fine. Local law enforcement must inform the sex offender of the violation within 30 days and must provide the sex offender with a list of areas in which he is permitted to reside. 02.19.08 The House Judiciary committee recommitted this bill to subcommittee. 02.12.08 The House Judiciary committee adjourned debate on this bill. 02.06.08 The House Judiciary Criminal Laws subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report with an amendment. This amendment requires recusal of an elected official who is a member of a firm that appears before the body on which he or she is sitting, but does not prevent the elected officials� business associates from appearing before the governmental body. This bill is on the agenda to be debated by the full House Judiciary Committee next week. Summary: Addresses the issue of colleagues of elected officials appearing before the governmental body where that elected official sits.
